You have your luxury SUVs that like to fade into the flow of traffic, putting comfort before any kind of character. Then you have the Nissan Armada NISMO. It is a full-size SUV with an undeniable presence and zero desire to be subtle about it.

Nissan has taken its long history of performance and put it in the latest Armada, making for something larger and bolder than what came before. You won’t find lap times here so much as attitude; this is a machine as comfortable at the valet stand in Beverly Hills as it is on the open desert roads past Las Vegas. That sort of duality is what puts the NISMO on your radar.

From the get go, it doesn’t look like the rest of the luxury pack. The front and rear have been reworked to sharpen the lines, and with wider fender flares, side steps and a more assertive rear spoiler, it has an athletic stance without being overdone. In Stealth Gray it is somewhere between understated and intimidating. You can see the red brake calipers behind the big wheels and high-performance tires and know right away this is no mere cosmetic exercise. It is clean and graphic, a muscular design that speaks to Nissan’s modern performance side without getting out of hand.
Put down the hood and you will find a 460-horsepower twin-turbo V6. For an SUV of this size, it is far more responsive than you would think. Yet the change is most apparent when you are driving it. The chassis is more composed than a body-on-frame ought to be, thanks in part to the adaptive electronic air suspension, and the steering has been set up to react quicker. You still get the three-row luxury comfort you pay for, but there is a new confidence when the road opens up. It is not a sports car in disguise, but rather a mature take on how performance and everyday luxury can coexist.

The interior has a darker, more tailored feel to it. There is extra bolstering in the front seats, some quilted work and aluminum pedals for a hint of motorsport, all of which give the cabin an elevated air. And while the Armada has always been roomy enough for the family and whatever luggage you can fit for a weekend trip, the NISMO adds some personality to the equation. It feels curated, not just functional.
In an era where most SUVs are vying for the same kind of quiet sophistication, the Armada NISMO is a welcome change. It has no intention of being anonymous or minimal. It is built on power and scale and has the confidence to show it. It is not made to blend in with the background.
It is made to be seen.
